it had been a week since her inception, and in that time she had been tended to by the pale woman - at first diligently, then intermittently, as needed. her wound was not a festering mess any longer; it would scar over, and she was lucky, for it would not cause her lasting pain. she did not linger in the woman's den for long after her final treatment. though the hanging herbs had become a comfort to her, hosannah knew not to impose upon liri for much longer -- so she sought a path away from the hollow within which she had slept these past few nights, and headed off among the trees with the intent of finding something suitable for herself. somewhere where the sun could penetrate the thickness of the dark, perhaps. as she moved, hosannah noticed the lack of life among the trees; she passed by no others, and felt her heart grow heavy.
