"Water," the young pup agreed with a grin, exemplifying her ability to enunciate. "Okay!" Spur added agreeably when Harlyn suggested she head the expedition to the source of the water. "Shhh," she said, hushing her mother unnecessarily and cocking her head so she could listen for that quiet, musical burbling.

"This way!" she announced after a beat, springing off to the right. Despite her long legs and gawky gait, Larkspur did not so much as stumble as she moved through the woodsy underbrush. She was quite agile, actually, moving as if she had been, well, born and raised in a forest.
