She was dreaming that dream again.

They skittered with legs too long and picked at the slickness of his tongue as they rallied from the pitch black of his throat. She wanted to scream but could look only at him and his summoning of the damned...it was not until a single insect fell that she could scarcely look away from the yellow lamps of his eyes. But look away she did, her averted glance a trigger of some sort that made gossamer wings snap open while the horde took flight and she was deafened by the rising tide of her ascension.

Wake up, Em. Wake up.
 
"You loved me once," he spoke. His words were far too tender for the horrors that spilled from his maw. Their bodies, some trapped in the gleam of his teeth, broke apart and stuck in the corners of his mouth. "Once," he said again. Bitterness. She felt it in the stinging accusations behind his rising tone.

I swear if you don't wake up he's going to scream and all that fury is going to rise and all of hell will rise with him and then you KNOW what's going to happen you know so why can't you just -
 
"ONCE!"

WAKE UP!
 
She jerked and gathered her feet as fast as she could in order to stagger off toward the bushes outside. There her tender sides heaved and she discarded a frothing nothingness into the foliage; the act of vomiting on an empty stomach was as dissatisfying as it was uncomfortable. She moaned, trying to keep the volume down for the sake of privacy, and leaned her unmarred shoulder heavily on a tree bordering her small mess of bile.
 
"Never," she said with venomous ferocity to herself as she shook her head to try and clear the vapors of her nightmare from her distracted mind.
