Appeh says something to her and she spins her head around to look at him, pondering the question. With a blank expression, she looks back to Amayo and watches how she twists and turns. It doesn't give her any insight in what she may want but she doesn't get up and approach and instead hunkers down even further into the sand. The other wolves speaking do not catch her attention even as she scans the face of each one. When she searches again for Amayo, she is no longer standing where she thought she might have been and instead off in the distance.

Her ears cup forward as if she can hear them but no sound trails across the space and the next thing she knows, Appeh says something. She mimics the earlier movement and shifts her whole body, staring up at the man. He talks of his plans, which she doesn't quite understand, but dumbly nods her head. Surprise still lights up in her features when he leaves her alone to see the other puppy and her heart speeds up, lurching into her throat. Qilaq tries to make herself smaller, settling between mounds of sand until someone retrieves the bundle of nerves.
