Whenever she did say something it was nothing more than small talk—little things, such as asking if she was excited or where she thought they might be going. When their short journey had drawn to a close, it was before a collection of strong-smelling plants that they stood. The leaves appeared to be sharp, their edges lined by misleading points. Truthfully, they were soft to the touch, despite what their disguise might suggest. The flowers that it grew were small and bluish in colour, but they were given little attention from Asterr since they were not the subject of the lesson. Carefully, she’d plucked a leaf and laid it down in front of the hatchling, giving her an opportunity to investigate it. “This is wild mint,” she’d lead with—right before sliding into, “You may eat it if you would like to.” Some didn’t like the taste, whilst others did, but there was no way of telling which category a wolf might fall into. All one could do was let them try a leaf, then wait to see what happens afterwards.
