With the warming air around them, Bastian was quick to leave behind Asherah and the pups in search of poppies. They bloomed in early spring, he knew, but a sane part of knew that it would be a while yet before any plants grew. Still, it made him feel better to roam rather than be cooped up in the Hinterlands; he barely knew this land, actually.
Eventually the German reached a meadow near a great lake — well, what would be a meadow once the snows finally melted and spring took over. He began his search there, digging through the snow to find any kind of life under the frozen crust.
