The sea had brought her a siren. A reminder of what had been left behind — of what had been lost. And here she was, racing up and down the sand bar while the wind whipped hail and sleet through the sky, rather than spending time with a vestigial connection to a world she'd left behind.

She ran, turned, ran some more. Snapped at chunks of snow floating through the air - barked at birds she could spy soaring against a backdrop of moody clouds. It was during her little tantrum that Hemithea noticed a dark blot on the horizon. The island was foggy and distant, but the tide was out and it presented a sort of.. trial to Hemithea.

Or maybe that's just what she told herself as she plunged into the freezing sea, making a bee-line from the shore to the distant island.
