While Hydra practiced her tracking, Alya practiced being Hydra. When Lyra arrived, she would fall back into her born role as Alya - for the Cerberus functioned best with its three separate heads - but for now, it could do no harm. Two Hyrdas were as good as a Hydra-and-Alya pair. (None of the heads were greater than another, for all that they lauded their dominant sister.)

And, either way, it served the Cerberus for Alya to know how to fall into her other two roles. She was not as practiced as Hydra at grace and motion, and so, while Hydra tracked, Alya tried to mimmick the feline grace with which she did so.
