Ravensblood Forest the bird and the bee [m]

The peace had been broken hours before Sirius came into the world. Something had jarred him from his rest, the rest that he'd enjoyed since first becoming aware that he was - that he was anything at all. And the whole thing had made him uneasy - more uneasy than when his mother ran or coughed or slept in a way that squished him against his fellows. More uneasy than the gut-wrenching fear that'd churned through her (him) on a night not too long ago. This was different. Something was changing.

And then everything shook and squeezed and moved, and then he was surrounded by something cold and bright and empty - and he squalled because wow! - but when all movement had ceased, and he laid squirming beside his fellows, Sirius decided that he was not wholly displeased by this new state of affairs.

Finally, things were getting exciting.
