Stone Circle Poor unfortunate souls

A few precious seconds ticked by, during which Murdock and Steph had a very tense stare-down. Then the male seemed to center himself, and his fur fell flat once more.

"No - hey, hey," he said cajolingly, lowering himself to the ground once more. "Don't be scared, little black thing. You're okay."

He wasn't sure whether or not the girl could understand him, but he figured his tone might be enough to calm her down. He wasn't used to being thought of as scary, and the idea didn't sit well with him.
