We were going to share him. But then he was gone, and I think it hurt Lyra more even than it hurt me. And then you came."

Her expression grew stormy once more, though her anger was no longer directed at Rannoch. "I guess we thought... we thought it was meant to be, you know? We rescused you, and we thought you were gonna be our man. But then Liffey came and found you, and it... it really sucked. We could never find Cypress."

But that was everyone's loss. Rannoch's as well as hers, because they were blood. They were family. "I wish he was here."
