A month ago, she would have ceased the opportunity to parade her rank, but not any more - she internalized the smile that threatened to detract from the reason she had sought him out in the first, but was quietly grateful for his submission.

There was something about Scimitar that.. fit. Bazi couldn't explain why, but she felt the bonds of pack much more strongly between the pair of them than any other wolf. Njal and Tuwawi had each other, and their devotion to Swiftcurrent Creek would never equal that. Fox surrounded herself with potential mates, and her actions were governed by the practicalities of passing on her genes - the fact that she ruled over twelve wolves did not seem to ignite a fire in her heart, as it did Bazi. Though they had not spoken of it, she sensed that Scimitar's idea of pack matched her own. It was something to burn for.

The Beta approached with spoken greeting, tip-toeing towards the agouti male as if approaching a trap. He barked - she responded, though hers was coloured with the slightest hint of aggression; a challenge for ownership of the meal.
