She thinks of the their last interaction and her heartbeat increases a second time—this time with little chance of calming down—and clears her throat. “I’m okay,” she decides, despite it being furthest from the truth. She opens her mouth to say something, quickly closes it, and then shuffles a bit to force it out anyway: “h-how are you?”
