Lecter would have preferred it had Mordecai simply rejected his notions out of hand; as it was, the newcomer posed some sort of philosophical nonsense, to which the Beta gave a resounding snort. Rude though the sound was, he regarded the man with a mixture of interest and pity. Mordecai had accepted the revelation of his knowledge graciously; Lecter would not mock him for his own.
