She wandered with no particular destination in mind, trailing through the Emberwood's familiar foliage. Her desire was to get away from the tension that hung over Swiftcurrent, to hide away with the darkness of her thoughts. Most importantly, the dragoness did not wish for her children to witness their mother in such a fragile state.

With the strong suspicion that Constantine's "scouting trip" involved the company of Aria, Durnehviir's outrage intensified. Uncertain if he would return or if she even wanted him to, the dragoness' anxiety heightened. She didn't know what to believe. How could her mate demand that she trust him, only to spirit the January dove away beyond their borders? Gritting her teeth, she rumbled inwardly - a move made to spite her, surely. If Constantine thought this latest development would temper the Alphess' anger, he was sorely mistaken.

Overwhelmed by her frustration, she was surprised to spot a Winter-white figure trail through the trees. She paused to regard him for a quiet moment, watching his careful stride before she turned her face away and made to continue along her path. Durnehviir was in no mood for chit-chat with a stranger.

everything mortal fades away in time, but the spirit remains
