No one came to rescue Nunataq. She was met with an indifferent silence and this was probably the moment, when she lost her childish belief that adults could make miracles happen and solve all of the problems. That the only person you could truly depend on was not your siblings, parents or caretakers, but yourself. And somehow this idea gave her consolation, gave her courage and confidence. Because she knew Nuna-self through and through. What was more important - she had faith in her as well.
Therefore she closed her eyes, inhaled deeply and did not forget to exhale. She opened her lids, got to her feet and looked around, while also keenly listening to any sounds. Her eyesight in this complete darkness was rather useless, but the information ears provided her proved to be more useful. Because she heard a quiet chuffing sound that stood out against the background of the silent forest and definitely belonged to someone, who was alive.
With this fact settled, she sniffed, testing various particles of air, before catching one that held her interest. Canine with a tint of blood from a lagomorph. Food. And someone, who owned it. This was good news. Nuna did not waste any time - she set out bravely in the dark forest and followed the delicious trail of scent, which eventually led her to a small wolf that was partially hidden by the darkness and a strong smell of fresh meat right next to her. Nunataq scraped her mind for all tips and lessons she had received about good manners, and came up with a simple friendly interested face that was in a stark contrast with the ravenously hungry look in her eyes and drool that dripped from her mouth.
