the rain that falls in sheets from the skies do little to dissuade the girl from her adventure. mud paints her black and brown, and the rain does more to chill her than it does to clean her pelt. these factors seem intent on having her irritability and temper reach new heights, but she's intent on following the shifting shadow just out of sight. she is convinced that it is the very same hare she saw once near the thickets, and perhaps if she manages to make it not move and be dead that her father will return. to isi, the making dead of food is associated heavily with her father, and if she herself manages perhaps to catch up with the hare, then her father would have to be there. it makes perfect sense, and she does not know that she chases nothing but rain and shadows.
