Yami was getting super fucking irritated with herself. She'd been feeling restless the past couple of days. Agitated. Like her skin didn't quite fit her anymore and she wanted to tear it off of herself. It was only a minor nagging at that point, but Yami had always been rather dramatic and she had very little tolerance for discomfort. She may have rejected being a princess of Moonspear, but she certainly still behaved and thought of herself as royalty.
For whatever stupid reason, she always found herself thinking of her ex-family in times like these. There was no possible way they could be blamed for her annoyance, but they had earned the rank of permanent scapegoats in her mind. It definitely had nothing to do with different feelings of the more wholesome sort. She didn't wonder about them except to hope that they were miserable without her. She didn't hope they'd realized they were a bunch of self-important jerks and were sorry for how they'd made her feel. She didn't miss them.
Yami frowned at the peak that reached skyward above the far horizon. She was highly displeased with her unruly thoughts that day, but no one had to know she was allowing them to pollute her mind. As the years went by, she was rather unhappy to find herself more capable of thinking of the good times. The nice moments. Charon showing her the stars. Amekaze teaching her how to hunt. Playing tricks on her brothers. Playing pretend with Yama and dreaming of how the two of them would one day become just like their older sisters.
She hated thinking about those things. They threatened to burst the illusion that it was her family that had wronged her. They too heavily suggested that maybe she had been selfish. Maybe she had been wrong.
Okay, too much. Yami shook her head and stood, rejecting that train of thought. She mastered her thoughts and scanned around for something else to focus on. Fortunately, she spotted such a distraction rather promptly in the form of a while wolf winding her way through the blossoms just ahead. Yami lifted her chin and sounded a short howl to call attention before cantering forward to meet her.
