Silence. In spite of days of travel, searching, hoping they might cross any sign of those they sought.. he was not accustomed to it. Emeric longed for the comfort and routines of home again, so that when he went to rest his head at night, he knew everyone was safe. That was not so, out here. He’d barely slept at all.
And after a few days, the lack of rest had was clearly taking its toll. Yet, stubbornly, he persisted onwards. His Queen sought to remain optimistic, to lift his spirits. And though he appreciated her optimism, her efforts, and truly did not wish to disrespect her... with every hour that went by not knowing.. concern amounted. So, onward they traveled, through the night, until at last the red of dawn and the silhouettes of trees rose up to greet them. The sight of a forest, a type of which he’d never seen before at last gave Emeric reason to pause.
As he took in the landscape, behind him, Brunhild called to her king. Her mate, their King. Silently he stood, his eyes and ears turning in all directions as her call faded, and he hoped for any sort of reply.
There had to be something. They had to be here, somewhere.
