Garahel missed Elvhenan. That’s a confession they’d never say allowed. There’s no reason for them to get homesick after all, no good one anyway. To live as an Elvhenan soldier is to live in agony. Yet after all the suffering they’ve gone through, they still miss the island.

It’s the small moments they yearned for. The pleasant memories. Chatting with fellow soldiers. Fishing in the river that ran through the island. Getting moments alone on the shore. Reminiscing on those things put a smile on their face, but none of them could compare to their memories involving Amadis. They made him the happiest. Amadis made him the happiest. That is why they wouldn’t give up this search. 

This will get easier, they thought a couple weeks into the quest. These foreign lands proved difficult to traverse through, but in time they’d get used to it. Surely. A couple more weeks pass, and Garahel still struggled at every turn. These lands were unpredictable. One moment they’re tip-toeing through grass that sliced their delicate paws, then they’re scaling a mountain in another. Now they were being attacked at all sides by some particularly prickly bushes.

Ow, they hissed for the the hundredth time after being pricked by the hundredth stick. They’ve had quite enough of this for one day. Garahel pushed past the brambles towards a nearby tree. The sun was beginning to set, and they had little chance to sleep. Best rest now and deal with getting out of here in the morning.
