Even though Mom was going along now, something about her attitude made the boy frown. It was like she wasn't taking this seriously! Ugh, she bugged him so much sometimes!

Veteran tilted his head as Askari made the comment about how he'd had a good instructor. "Issorartuyok is my mentor." No way was Mom getting credit for that one. 

Veteran wrinkled his nose as the stranger finished her explanation. She was being pretty vague. He didn't like it. What if she was all on her own because she was dangerous, like Makatza? Makatza was out there by herself somewhere, wandering the world just like Askari. Who's to say Askari wasn't just as bad as her? 

He communicated his doubts with a rumbling huff.
