The young thief understood he’d have other chances, even with nothing more than skin and bones on his frame. There’d be no chance at all for a fool who found himself clasped in the jaws of someone who sought harm.

Aquene was sweet, though. She was a regular honeysuckle, a real sugarcube. If she hadn’t mentioned that she needed to continue her path, Haru might have offered to tag alongside her for a while. All their talk of responsibility and chasing after oneself had really made him tired, though, and he didn’t want to have to keep to another wolf’s schedule.
