It was incautious of the female wolf to attempt to send her pack-mate after the bear instead of soliciting the white male’s assistance. Kierkegaard regarded her with a quick smirk and a cold flash in his fiery gaze at the sound of her impatience. Evidently, he had struck a nerve with the pack wolf as well. His eyes followed the retreat of the silver male before they snapped back to attention on the agouti-pattern woman. Fixing his eyes on her own, his lip drew wayward and he snapped his jaws in her direction, growling threateningly at her. She would not be given the chance to simply act on her pretentious attempt to ’take care’ of him. The ashen male had not been softened by the life of a pack; he had lived every day of his past three years of life in the wilderness. This stranger would know what it meant to feel his savage force. Darting forward without warning, Kierkegaard opened his jaws and aimed a vicious bite at her face. His legs were long enough to have closed the distance between the two of them, but if she was quick on her feet, it would be avoidable. The loner may not have had a quarrel with the bear, but this honey-colored stranger was a different story entirely. Already, by sending her fellow pack-mate into the fray with a female grizzly bear, the she-wolf had put herself at a disadvantage. She had lost a crucial key to subduing Kierkegaard's anger, and if something managed to go wrong and the bear darted for their pack territory, she would be even more foolish to continue the spar with Kierke rather than help to save her companions.
