Moonspear no time for a summer friend

Teething + eyes open!

Much of the newborn's life had been tactile, and dark. He knew only his own impulsivity: hunger, thirst, warmth; but as the hours wore in to days, in to weeks, he learned of another sensation: pain. It came slowly and in waves, as his teeth grew up from the gums.

They hurt! The more they grew the more he fussed, and it was during one of his fits that something new happened: he sucked in a breath and cried sharply enough to fill the ulaq with a storm of unhappiness; his eyes open, glossy in the darkness.

Nothing could satiate the child's need for comfort. He kicked and shouted, bit at the fur of his mother, and fought the shadows as if they were the true offenders of his noble sensibilities.
