She woke to a gray morning. The mountain air held the thick earthy scent of rain, but the rain had not yet begun to fall. For several seconds River was disoriented, knowing that some important change had come about but not yet cognisant of what it was. It took time for her to fully awaken and realize that she had joined a pack, and it was within the borders of her new home that she had spent the last several nights.
The realization enfolded her in a warm sense of safety and relief. However, days had passed and it was time for her to show her gratitude however she could. After stretching her front and hind legs, the pale she-wolf let her nose hover above the earth and she began to move through the vale, searching for prey. If nothing else, she could help replenish the food she had consumed since her arrival.
