Sable liked the beach. It was calm, quiet, and the water tasted funny. It got less quiet the closer he got to his big brother’s hoard of children, though, so he kept his distance as to not get overwhelmed. Too many inputs, the colors of their voices, the sounds, the wailing of the littler ones. It was too much.

So, he took to walking the beach, or staying by Junior if she happened to be available.

Today, his mother’s words were red. Normally they pulled between a yellow and red gradient but today, they were red. As she spoke to them of leaving her here.
