She'd been lucky, terribly lucky.
Andromache crept into the valley a mess of dried blood and sand, one foreleg swollen where the snake had bitten her. Her neck was torn just below her chin, then again where it met her shoulder, and again all the way down to her chest; here it was the worst, her fur dark and still wet with blood, and it ran down her legs now in stark rivulets.
She wept silently as she stepped into the water, hidden away from the eyes of those who might have protected her. Nikolaos, @Euryalos; why hadn't she taken one of them with her? Why had she gone off alone? Andromache could hardly bear the thought of facing either of them, let alone @Faustus.
So she tended her wounds alone, clumsily, stubbornly refusing each sob which threatened to claw itself from her throat. She would not be weak. She would not be seen as less than these men.
