slaney had not parted from moonspear in many weeks. he found himself drawn outward today in an effort to escape the frigidity that descended upon the peak; winter was now only around the corner, and even still, he needed a break from the thin air and high elevation at times. 
he had passed through the glen and up to the evergreens in the north. something about it drew him in; spoke to him in a way that made his bones ache and lurch. he longed to bury himself in the dirt here, to forget. to be something else. someone else.
the moonspear wolves were kind. they saw things in him that he did not see in himself. and yet he could not seem to shake it, that feeling that there is something wrong with him. that he does not belong there.
he had been so lost in his own thoughts that he hadn't even noticed the crunch of bone, nor the silent, embittered figure blended into the treebare and crisp snow.
