Ink had not spent much time with Chickadee yet, and they were grateful for the opportunity to know her better. Moonglow had changed greatly in their absence. They let her take the lead, hanging back to greet each of the children with a smile and a cheerful observation about the hunt.

It was natural to be frightened in a setting so crowded and chaotic, they thought. But there would be no room here for such fear. Suppose the children got caught up in watching and witnessed some terrible injury? That wouldn't do at all.
