Ponyboy's words scarcely reached her through the white noise crashing around her skull. But she heard him.

She blinked once in relief and began to lead him away. Her steps were shaky at first, but her pace quickened the closer they came to the borders, and quickened further as they passed them. Ponyboy would come with her. She didn't have to be alone, not this time. And she wouldn't let anyone take that from her.
