They set off, Rusalka taking one sweeping stride for every three of Arrax's own much smaller ones. There is no goal in mind for the young pup, he simply revels in the fact that he has the chance to explore beyond the dark, cramped den. Every rumble from his father is an approval to go further and further into the surrounding forest, and the cub's pace begins to accelerate.

Rusalka would have no problem keeping pace with his son, however. The boy's hike stops and starts continuously as he pauses to sniff at every twig and rock, or to listen to the distant caw of a crow, or to stare at the shadows and sunlight dancing upon the ground.

A strange, winged stag beetle suddenly crosses their path, and Arrax halts with a forepaw raised in the air, stubby tail raised as if to signal to his father danger! He remains in position, unsure what to do next.
