she snorted, delighted by the very thought.

she imagined this was a lot of damage from a single look. maybe a curse had been put into it. from sobeille? she could believe it, maybe.

the question caught her by surprise and her features fell a bit solemn.

when i was real itty, my grand used to tell this story. when she was a girl, scouring the coast like most days, how she saw a whole group of them cutting through the far waters. the validity of this story could never be traced, like all good stories went. dogfish never questioned her, though. she said it looked like they all became one. like a hunting pack.

she had struggled to ever tell the story as good as grand had, but she hoped her seriousness carried the heft it came with. maybe they're like us. maybe sometimes they drift and sometimes they come together. hope i'm this useful when i beach. she snipped her teeth towards a gull who was becoming too brave for her liking.
