The Lord had answered; but not in the way she had expected. No voice from the heavens, no light carving through the clouds. Instead, He sent a woman, dark as the earth after rain, her posture regal, her gaze steady. A creature of shadow and soil, stepping forth as though drawn by the same unseen hand that guided the sandwomans path.
Hemera adjusted herself, head tilting in quiet curiosity, her tail flickering like the final stroke of a candle flame. The plains? The word lingered between them, foreign on her tongue. Her gaze wandered briefly, tracing the curve of the distant ridges, the breath of the wind rolling over the mountaintops.
„You must go east,” she murmured, voice light as drifting sand, „beyond these mountains.” And yet, her eyes did not leave the stranger now, the weight of something unseen pressing upon her spirit. Why had God sent this woman here? Why had their paths entwined in this wilderness? A sign had been given; just not the one she had prayed for.
A soft smile unfurled on her lips, the light of quiet understanding flickering behind her plum-hued eyes. Rising to her feet, she stepped forward, measured, deliberate, a seeker drawn toward the unknown.
„Tell me,” she breathed, the question hanging between them like a thread spun by fate, „What is it you seek in the plains?”
