Working through first-time motherhood is a challenge Waawaashkeshi could never have been prepared for. Some things came through instinct, some trial and error. When her babies cried she held them, when they began to resist milk she brought them mice, when they would not eat the mice she regurgitated for them - they liked that far better.

Taking her time to relax between hunting to eat for her children, preparing for Summerwalking, and assisting others, Waawaashkeshi was struggling to keep her eyes for the moment.
