Carolina had been napping, but the smell of blood nearby was quick to draw her out of slumber. She came awake all at once, rocketing to her toes almost before she knew what was happening. Her ears cupped eagerly toward the sound of pawsteps, but they were moving away from her —

The pup burst forth from the den, intent on chasing down the adult in question and wrestling the blood smell from their jaws. All thought fled her mind, however, when she locked eyes with the terrified rabbit in front of her. It seemed to realize at that moment that it was still alive, and thus attempted to dart away from Carolina's puppyish pounce.

They were off to the races, then. The rabbit wobbly and frantic, and Carolina behind it, clumsy and determined. She made no squeaks or growls, but there was a racket of flying fur and thumping legs each time she caught up enough to try and wrestle the thing down. Even broken legs kicked, though, and the rabbit still bit well enough. She would be fine — but it was proving to be an embarrassingly even fight, for the moment.
