It was over. Her heat had passed, and she was successfully not-pregnant for another year. Her method never failed!

She had slipped out of the bear den early that morning, disposing of thoroughly used up herbs and bones leftover from meals. Haedwig had made sure to give herself a good wash, too.

The sun was high with the midday now and she stared up at the highest peaks of the spear. Sooner or later she would need to climb up and meet the other residents. Maybe today would be the day, if she could shake off her nerves. The old witch pushed out a heavy breath, settling into her usual hunched posture.

This was going to suck.
