It was an entire affair of dreams, nightmares, and every other thing his subconscious determined to torture him with.
Her, pain, and being unable to save her.
His mother, and Somnia. Another wolf, some darkie, who..holy stars of bananas, it was bad.

His mother was writhing in her misery, his original pain, her rabies. The foam, the spittle, the bubbles of death, it was everywhere.
And she was heading straight for Somnia.
The same Somnia who stood on the very edge of a frozen lake, very so gently tiptoeing to the brittle edges.
She turned, to see a golden wolfess coming at her with pale venom frothing from the very base of her death lined jaws.

Ashton was so far away from her...so far..
It felt like the whole world was watching him.

"Dont bother, because your love is a lie."

The dark wolf. He was here.

"Save her! Fucking do something, dude! Dont stand there!" The panicking teen shouted at him.

"Its a sweet, end..The knife sings alone. Just let her go. It's all for you. You, alone."

He wasn't making sense! What?!

"Dont torture me, or confuse me! This can't go through! Knock Mom out of the way or something! Screw it..You're no help. It's my war to win. My battle to win." Ash struggled, the tidal wave of emotion threatening to force him to fight back.

Mother Nature, you vulture..
You traitor.

"Mum, I know ya can hear me! You don't need an early grave! She's mine! You stay away from her, it's not her time!" the teen rushed, but the two girls before him seemed only to get farther and farther away.

The onyx spoke again.

"Make me a promise here, tonight. Stop trying to save everyone. Chemicals won't bring everyone home. It doesn't have to be this way."

"I can't lose my best friend..She..I can't. Bro.. please. "
He was begging, pleading. He couldn't watch her go through the same shit. Rabies was a horrible thing. His mother just got closer and closer. She too, was now on the ice. Ashton was millions of lightyears away from them, but it seemed like the breaking of the ice was right in his ears. It was the moment he looked at the pair in despair, Somnia's face twisted into one of horror, it seemed evident how much trouble she was in. And a moment of murdering silence passed between all of the lupine, as Somnia looked directly at him, obviously needing for him to help her.

"Bring her back, or take me with her! I can't watch this happen again! I won't take life for granted again! Please!"

"Its not life you're taking for granted, mortal."

What the hell of fuckery squared, divided by damnit.
Everything went straight to his heart once the ice collapsed under the weight of both girls. Gurgling, swishing, then silence.
Ashton swooned, as the last sight he saw was calm, frigid waters. Then the face of the unrecognizable obsidian wolf was the only thing in his view.

Don't steal what's mine again, boy. Or you will relive your past, and every unimaginable torture will await you when I get my own claws within your soul.I know you, Ashton. Do you know, I count your heartbeats before you sleep? I know every breath you've taken. You will never rest, until you have stopped disobeying me."

"Who are you? I don't even know who the hell you are! Please don't take this out on me..Just crash it all, tonight.", he whimpered, the remaining strength leaving his body in massive loads of pain.
Ashton's head, heart, and body ached. He felt every bone snap, every tendon severed, every breath cause his lungs to fill with more and more with the pool of blood. How? How was he still alive?

Darkness came, pressing on him from every wall outside, and within him. Numbing. He couldn't even tell if he was breathing anymore. His eyes, however, the dulling emeralds that once lit up everyone's day, began to hide underneath drooping eyelids.
And before he lost consciousness, the mysterious wolf spoke in his ear for a final time,

"Death."



Ashton woke up, his own golden body shivering, not from winter's breath, but from trauma. He was't startled, but woke up slowly, as if he was just released from a coma. He realized he wasn't even breathing, so he got right on that. Then, he turned over to inspect his sleeping beauty, and was relieved to see she was still breathing.
Oh sons of baby flowers, it was good to be alive.
