Greatwater Lake together again

(No problem! I've been pretty busy as well with lots of stuff. ^^)

The level of surprise that Ariston felt must’ve been somewhat contagious—the violent snap of his head in her direction startled Hiraeth, causing her to skitter back a step or two. Nothing moved for a minute except for the light refracting off of the water. Part of the girl wanted to run, but her muscles locked her in place. This was a bad idea, she despaired, Eppes always said that there was danger in everything—strangers especially!

Though that moment seemed to hang forever (or, at least, in her mind), it broke and the other wolf immediately reverted to his previous jovality. Hiraeth remained awestruck. “Celebrating?” she parroted, more to herself than anyone. The concept seemed almost foreign to her. And though his question was warranted, with her own asking, questions had a habit of making her defensive. “Waiting f-for—uh. Hunting.” A passive way of hunting, but a way of hunting nonetheless. Not that there’d be anything coming to drink anywhere near here now, she thought, regarding the stranger’s splashing.
