Kira was wandering the border, marking some of the territory as she walked. She checked some of the scents nearby as she wandered. So far, things seemed fine. Every once in a while, she'd stop and just like Kindle had taught her, she'd mark spots where she didn't recognize the scent.
After a while, she decided to take a break and found a spot to lay down and rest. Her thoughts were running a bit rampant as she tried to figure out how she felt. Finally having the space to think about what she wants has proven to be a blessing and a curse.
To try to help her think through those feelings, she started singing, not super loudly, just enough to help her feel better.

He was always pleased to hear singing on the mountain, even if he was not as compelled to sing back as he was when it was Kinusi. And it was not hard at all to tell that this was someone else — he was not sure that Kini had ever sung (or done anything else) so quietly.
Katmai had to move closer in order to properly hear the little voice. He was surprised to find Kira at the other end of it, and his tail spun in greeting even before he made the final decision to approach.
He padded up behind her without speaking, stepping loudly so that he would not startle her when he drew near. He settled nearby, perching sphinx-like on the same rock as she to gaze out over the ledge.
They were low in the foothills, near to the borders. It was not a place he often lingered, but it was peaceful enough.

Kira heard loud steps behind her and stopped singing to turn around. "Hello, Katmai," she greeted, her tail flicking excitedly. "How are you?" She looked out over the ledge. "How are you?"
She hadn't seen Katmai since she had met Easy.
"It's a nice view," she added as she took in a breath.

Katmai laughed — "That rhymed," he pointed out, pleased. But, obligingly, he returned his attention to the view, which was indeed quite lovely. He was still getting used to the mountain, and he wasn't always sure it was his favorite place on earth, but it was quite nice to be able to look out over the rest of the land.
It always made him feel quite kingly.
"I'm doing well," he replied, quite pleased to report. He did not speak of recent developments with Kinusi — that was between the two of them, after all — but his satisfaction was quite clear. Only being in love could bring a man such pleasure, he thought. "The pack is fed, the weather is holding, and I am surrounded by family and friends."
He offered her a little smile. She was part of that.
"How are you?" he asked her. "You seem quite pensive."

Kira laughed at his comment that she had rhymed. “I didn’t even realize.” She was becoming more aware of things, actually being around other wolves. So, she noticed something was different about Katmai, but she couldn’t quite place it.
Perhaps it was simply that his new pack was doing well.
“Yes, things are going very well, I’m happy for you,” she told him.
She hmmed at his saying she seemed pensive. “I suppose. I’ve been learning a lot about myself, I guess.” She laughed a bit.
