Much had happened in the time since Atshen had fallen in status. The position of Dark Master had been returned to Damien, but as quickly as the older wolf had reclaimed his throne, he too fell, and the title of Dark Master had been claimed immediately by Damien's intended, Astrid. Under his sister's rule, the woods succame to a time of peacefulness. There was no bloodshed, nor was the war. Frankly, it was all too tame for the former Dark Master's taste, even though the Brotherhood had stolen a fire-pelted woman who now served as their captive, and he found himself growing more restless by the day as he witnessed the decline of Blackfeather Woods. Finally, Atshen reached a point in which he could no longer stand it; for the sake of his sanity, shadow-dwelling wolf knew he needed to leave the forest that he had once called home.

Without giving notice to any of the others, or without any remorse in abandoning those he had known his entire life, the former Dark Master slipped from the shadows of the woods early and into the morning. With motivation nipping at his heels and wicked plots of murder running rampant in his mind, the yearling headed north. He had satisfied his thirst and hunger to gluttonous proportions before leaving, and this allowed him to go quite some time without stopping.

The light upon the plains shone with a golden tint, causing the landscape to appear more tranquil than it normally did. It was something that would cause the average wolf to take a moment to recognize the territory's beauty, but such sights did not attract Atshen's awareness. No, the only thing that would cause Atshen to divert his attention would be the only thing he currently sought: the active scent trail of another wolf.

When the smell of another finally did come to Atshen, he stopped abruptly and turned in the direction in which it originated. A quick survey of sight and smell told Atshen that the wolf was alone. Atshen felt a rush of sick pleasure in this; it was as if his ideal situation had been handed to him on a silver platter. Wasting no time in marveling over what he had come across, Atshen re-routed himself and drove himself towards the unsuspecting wolf. The yearling took care in the way that he stalked forward as he wanted to remain unnoticed and by some miracle, he accomplished just that. With several yards separating the two wolves, Atshen felt as though the time to strike was upon him. The cream-pelted wolf was still oblivious to the shadow's approach, and the yearling could not restrain his thirst for blood any longer.

A guttural cry broke the peaceful stillness of the plains as Atshen made his presence known. With the call to battle sounded, the yearling surged towards the naive stranger. As he sped forward, the former Dark Master was faced with a look of horror as the wolf from the Vale turned and realized what was going on, but it was too late for Mattias to turn and run. With very little distance separating the two wolves at this point, Atshen sprung forward to pin the other wolf. Once Mattias was under Atshen, the former Dark Master wasted no time before he reached forward and grabbed the victim's throat between his teeth.

It had been long since Atshen felt as intoxicated as he did at that moment. Every counter action that Mattias did in his attempt to reclaim his freedom only intensified Atshen's pleasure. Knowing that the murder had to be done quickly, as his victim was stronger than he had anticipated, Atshen pressed a forepaw heavily against Mattias' head and reached to grab at the other man's neck. Once he was confident that he had a good enough hold on the stranger, Atshen sought the other's eyes for a brief moment so that he could see the horror that he had caused. Satisfied with what he saw, Atshen suddenly jerked his head backward and took what he could with him as he attempted to separate the man's throat from his body. A satisfying snap told Atshen that he was successful in removing a portion of that man's gullet and with this, he ceased any further attacks as he knew that nature would take over and finish what Atshen had begun. With this acceptance, the man removed his forepaw from the others head and looked intently into the other wolf's eyes so that he could watch Mattias surrender to the ultimate victor: death.

Atshen watched in silence as Mattias died. Any curse that had been aimed towards the yearling fell on deaf ears, as Atshen paid little mind to the man's sputtered remarks. Eventually, as the last light of Mattias' life dimmed, Atshen dismounted his victim as a sudden high hit him. Driven by this feeling, Atshen abandoned the body without another thought towards the man. He left the scene as quickly as he had stumbled upon it, feeling drunk with euphoria as he cantered away.

In time, once his ebullient intoxication faded, Atshen would find himself seeking his next victim as he sought higher spirits that could only be brought about at the expense of another's life.
