All Welcome
Wanna hunt?

Firefly found a creek that soon transitioned in to something greater, and as it gushed like an open vein leading away from Ravensblood, he followed it. As charmed as he was by the pine forests that he and @Yami roamed within, he wanted to get further from the sea. As far as he could. But they had not eaten since prior to their departure from the coast. He was growing hungry, so when the pair crossed the river and began to climb the plateau towards more mountainous terrain, Firefly kept his eye out for possible prey. He was lucky - within a few hours he began to notice graze lines and began to eagerly prowl, searching for the resident herd of deer.

It was slowly beginning to dawn on her that Firefly might not actually have a plan. It was just a little niggling feeling in the back of her mind, but it was there. Yami paid it no mind so far--it wasn't like he'd promised her a future. He'd promised an epic adventure, and so far, that's what he was delivering. Kind of.

What did it matter anyway? She was smitten. As Firefly spotted their prey ahead, Yami had been watching him, fantasizing about how much he loved her and what their evening together would bring. When he growled, her ears flattened in embarassment. Had he heard her thoughts? Was he telling her she was being stupid? Did he change his mind about her? Did he...

Oh. Deer. Yami held back the sigh of relief as she slid into a hunter's crouch and stalked after him.

Dice roll for how many deer they spot: 1
Dice roll for success (positive is a win): 2

The likelihood of two wolves taking down a full-grown buck was slim, but it was spring, and they were both in good health and high spirits. They might find a tired doe to take down, or one of the slower children would become their target - either way, Firefly felt extremely confident that they'd find something. The graze lines flowed along the edge of the plateau where the trees were thin; the more he stalked the more clear they seemed, as well as the various other signs that deer had been through this way — droppings, gouges in the soil from bucks sparring perhaps, and the vague sense that they were being watched.

Then, he heard it. The sad little bleat of a fawn — somewhere over the edge that the two wolves were patrolling. Firefly glanced to Yami to make sure he wasn't hallucinating and went on to peer over the steep ledge; beneath him, sprawled awkwardly, was a small creature struggling to stay balanced, calling meekly for a mother that was gone.

Yami crept along after him, trying to be as quiet as she could. At first, she took note of the same things he did. But soon enough, her mind was wandering again. She was considering what they would do after they'd successfully caught dinner for themselves. She remembered the meal she'd shared with Tru that night. When she'd thrown herself at him, and he'd rejected her.

She was lost in that memory for a while as they continued. It wasn't until the deer cried out weakly that Yami was brought back to the present. She stepped up to the ledge beside Firefly and peered down at the fawn. "Looks like we've got an easy meal today," Yami commented with a smirk. The ledge was steep, but she was a daughter of the mountain. She'd been climbing all her life.

Yami might've felt confident about this so-called easy meal, but one look from Firefly (a small slip of doubt, a frown of concern as he looked over the edge again) and it was clear his burly body wasn't acclimated to mountaineering. If he looked for too long it was like the world was shifting away from him, rolling from his shoulders, and he feared being swept up in the sensation, so he stepped back from the ledge.

Uhhh how about you dive down there and grab it? I wanna watch you move! A flash of his winning smile (looking a bit green) and he settled back on his haunches, his ears twitching at every tiny bleat of the weakened fawn. The man licked his lips, feeling the warmth of fresh saliva fill his mouth - and he looked at Yami expectantly, hungrily, expecting her to do the work just this once.

Yami was surprised to see Firefly back away from the ledge. To be more exact, it was the look on his face as he did so that made her pause. He clearly was not very comfortable with what she had suggested, which made her wonder a little about this so-called desire for adventure he kept talking about. Apparently, their future adventuring would not involve mountain climbing.

She smirked at his encouragement and looked back down the face of the cliff, mapping out her route. She'd already determined that this was a chance for her to show off for him, though it wasn't anything she previously would've considered to be impressive. After a moment of plotting, Yami trotted a few yards further down the the edge of the precipice before hopping lightly off the side with barely a pause in between.

The former Ostrega continued down the cliff in this manner, artfully hopping from ledge to ledge and moving along the small paths she could find in between. When she reached the same plane at the fawn, it was too fearful and uncertain to do anything more than just stare up at her as she grabbed it by the neck and killed it with a quick jerk of her head.

She repositioned her hold on it to clench her jaws around its spine where it would be slightly less in her way as she made the climb back up, and then it was back to manuevering the cliff face like a mountain ninja until she was dropping the fawn at Firefly's paws.

"I wish all hunts were that easy," Yami commented nonchalantly as she sat back on her haunches to catch her breath.

He didn't want to look over the ledge if it brought that sense of vertigo back to him, but before long Yami was climbing down the cliffside, and it felt more like a responsibility to try and be her spotter. She was certainly more suited to the rough terrain than he was; Firefly couldn't recall ever living in a place with such steep angles. He wondered if he'd have lasted as a member of Drageda versus Rusalka since he had such an aversion to heights — but there was a crack of breaking bones, and then Yami was climbing back up. Easy as pie.

She dragged the freshly disposed-of fawn along with her, its long limbs awkwardly clattering on the rocks, its hooves dragging in the dirt. Firefly was awed by the way Yami had so effortlessly sought out the fawn and it showed on his face, his big stupid grin and bright eye fixated upon Yami — That was awesome, you're awesome! As she settled to her haunches, he rose to his feet and lurched towards the fawn, then began to pull apart its thin haunch with his teeth.

Yami could see the admiration on Firefly's face out of the corner of her eye as she tried to play it cool by gazing out over the ledge at the terrain stretched out before them. She was quite pleased with the attention, as well as with the compliments that were thrown her way. She glanced sidelong at him and shrugged. "I grew up on a mountain," she informed him, "You learn things."

She watched him lunge for the fawn and licked her lips. She'd caught her breath now, but still was willing to wait until he'd severed a piece before she grabbed one of her own. She had been the one to catch it and usually Yami would've insisted that she have first dibs because of that, but she felt that this would win her more brownie points if she were gracious on top of flawlessly talented.

After Firefly tore little fawn in two, she reached to grab half for herself and settled in for some light conversation over a good meal. They'd continue on soon enough, but it was nice to just hang out together for now. So nice that she didn't even notice that the conversation went just about no where... something she'd reflect on only after she'd parted ways with him as evidence that they had never had a thing at all in common. But that was still days ahead in the poor little idiot's future. For now, they ate.
