Bearclaw Valley Lightning is a continuing risk to storm chasers

The sky was dark and roiling overhead as Lucas reached the cliffs overlooking Bearclaw Valley. He was nervous about the possibility of finding Nunataq here, but he guessed she would be down in the valley proper rather than up here where the wind was high and cutting. Easthollow lay behind him. He was brought back to a time when he stood on high cliffs overlooking the sea with gulls winging about his ears, and he took a deep breath through his nose as thunder growled above him.

Things were finally looking up. He was reunited with his family for good, he was about to become a big brother, and the weather was just going to keep getting warmer. He would have time to search for Merrick while also helping out Laurel with his baby siblings. He would have time to prove himself as a loyal and dedicated member of his family. He smiled, puffing his chest out as he peered down on the green vale below. Maybe one day he would even be allowed to return here and claim it for his family.

Lucas Redleaf had a long life ahead of him and it was looking bright.

Not as bright as the abrupt flash of white that blotted out his vision moments after his scalp began to tingle pleasantly. It was like his soul was instantly torn from his body and forced to watch from afar. He felt himself lifted off his feet and thrown backward from the cliff; at the same time, every one of his senses seemed to shut down. He couldn't see, hear or move. He didn't feel his body impact the ground. He didn't feel the singing burn that arced across his back and down through his left hind leg where the lightning exited. The clap of thunder that accompanied his fall was earsplitting but he heard nothing but static. He didn't feel how his respiratory system was paralyzed and he didn't feel the pain of suffocating on his failing lungs, which was a mercy. He didn't feel when hypoxia claimed his life. The last thing he ever felt was pride and love for his family.
