All Welcome
Talonfjord was a hillside paradise, built near a lake of clear water that would freeze every winter, and for a few hours it felt as if it were frozen in time, until the snow fell to blanket the place. Then it was like nothing existed there at all.

To say that the forking creek before him compared was plainly wrong. Only the thinnest sections of this waterway had frozen, and even then not completely, with the rapids churning endlessly. He had followed the rumble of them as a way to orient himself. The moss crunched underfoot. The only positive aspect of this place was the smell of fir trees everywhere, the only thing not leeched of life by winter.

The fishing might be good, he thought. It was not a meal that had brought him to this wretched place, but the promise of spring on the horizon. There would be plenty of needy women in the coming weeks for him to satisfy his hunger with. For the time being the man followed the edge of the creek as best he could and pondered over his next move.
