All Welcome
evermore's condition has worsened into phase 2! she is now much more aggressive and WILL attack anyone who comes near. thread with at your own risk! <3

evermore was not present. her brain and soul were long gone, passed into the ethereal space, and returned to her home of lightning ridge. her body was restless, however, still warped by the disease that continued to eat away at her body and bones.

her body was a terrifying sight, thick foam bubbling and frothing at her lips, an unclear and stumbling gate, and hackles that remained permanently flagged.

evermore was no longer here. just her disease and her husk. the lake does not concern the body, it instead finds its way around the body of water, looking for something.

This pre-dates Thresher's joining of Sweetharbour- but given the fact they met so many years ago, I couldn't help myself :)

She was headed for the coast. Having found the mountain ranges she recognized, she followed them in the distance, lured toward them knowing that her birthplace would be waiting for her, out in the bay, as it had always been. She'd traversed so much land, and had wandered past countless mountain ranges- and though they were formidable, they were also dependable. They didn't change much over time, not like the trees and the waterways. She knew the Sunspire, and headed toward it, hoping to breeze through the flatlands and out to the ocean.

The scent of the lake tempted her- but a small spatter of bloody spittle on the ground caught her attention. The scent that accompanied it was both familiar and terrifying. She combed through her memories, until at last she recalled the face of the kind, bright woman she'd met on the beach when she'd been just a year old, or so.

Evermore.

But this...This wouldn't be Evermore. Not if that spittle had come from her. Drawn to a disaster, and her heart beating in her chest, Thresher began to follow the diseased female. She'd learned of the disease, but had never witnessed it before. And if she wanted to continue her path as a naturalist, these were things that she would have to see in order to understand.

But the figure the disease haunted...Evermore was still slightly familiar, if only from the shade of her pelt and the shape of her face. In the distance- and Thresher made sure to follow far away, so she could only observe from a distance- she looked like little more than a shadow of what she'd been. Jerky movements, bristled hackles- everything Thresher had been told. It was a disease that could effect any animal, as far as she knew.

The ecologist in her begged her to remain silent. But Thresher had a bleeding heart. She needed to know.

"Evermore?" She called out. She needed to see if any trace of the woman remained- if she would even recognize her own name.

Meridian, who had recently joined (to some extent) the pack of Paleo in the mountains, had noticed the female pass by. He wasn't sure what was ailing her but he could see something was wrong. He heard a wolf, from a farther distance than he was to this female, call out a name. Evermore. He assumed that was a womens name. Meridian looked around for the owner of the voice, before spotting another female a bit of a distance away from him. He padded out of from where he was watching Evermore to lock eyes with her. He mouthed "do you know whats wrong?", though he wasn't sure if the other women would see it.

The coywolf was intrigued by the state of the sick female but also unsure. He didn't know what was going on and though his young liveliness and curiosity drew him to want to explore and find out, he could sense danger.

she did not hear her name, but only a voice that would cause her head to sickeningly rips away from the ground in search of the location. foam sprays itself from the quick motion, embedding itself into her fur and the ground, and bits flick into the water itself. the body loses balance, stumbling in a forward direction it thinks is towards the source of the sound.

and a gut-wrenching growl leaves her mouth.

but as the scent of not just one but 2 others entertain her nostrils, evermore's body pushes itself into an aggressive and uncoordinated gallop towards the general direction of where the others remain, perhaps a few feet off from the exact spot. her body language, the sounds, the warped expression on her face -- evermore was never present.

she'd trip, tumbling into the ground and crying out in what the body perceived as pain. yet despite the fact that a sharp rock opens a small wound on her side that readily spills sickly blood, the body still runs forward, jaws flayed open and snarls echoing.

This wasn't Evermore. Not anymore. The wolf lifted its head, and thick trails of spittle fell from its mouth. Not a glimpse of the kind, outgoing wolf that had once belonged to that body. It was what Thresher had been told- a disease that wipes the mind of consciousness, and leaves nothing but blind aggression. Witnessing it, however, broke her heart. Not only because she'd met the wolf before, but because she couldn't imagine what had led to this...What agony she had endured, and would continue to endure until she ran herself out.

The coywolf, inquisitive, caught her attention, and she feared he might draw too close. "Don't-" Thresher began to warn him, but her interjection was lost as the rabid wolf growled. A hollow noise, rattling. Thresher wondered, for a moment, if perhaps Evermore might be somewhat aware of what was happening to her, and trying to warn Thresher off. A selfless act, perhaps- until she began to charge.

Her movements were jerky, uncoordinated. Thresher had distance, consciousness, and health to her advantage- and wasn't necessarily worried about being caught. But she didn't lunge away instantaneously- instead, she began to bound toward the stranger, head low as her body called forth any amount of shepherd from her instincts to drive the stranger away. "Run! Contagious!" She shouted.

Meridian realized just a little too late that this wolf had something badly wrong with her. And then when the wolfdog yelled at him to run, he tried. But he stumbled on a branch and tumbled straight into the rabid creature. He tried to get to his feet but he knew she was already upon him.

next post can pp her biting him and such

upon him she was.

thresher's good deeds would not reach the coy fast enough. evermore's teeth would beat her to it and sink into whatever flesh she managed to grab ahold of. her brain lacked reasoning to care, but for meridian's sake, this bite would not take long to manifest the disease. it was upon his scruff where teeth sank, and thankfully not close enough where she could choke him with her hold.

this would give him enough time to try and wrestle away from her, by use of his body or his mouth. the uncoordinated and rabid being would eventually let go in an attempt to grab more but fell to her knees once again. this would be a critical window for escape. the blood tasted like nothing within her mouth and against her tongue, yet the disease would force her to continue the chase until the two would be out of sight.

"No! No! NO!" Thresher barked, but felt helpless. She had been warned of how the disease was incurable, and highly contagious. The wolf that bit and tore did so with a machine-like frenzy, something she'd never seen in a wolf before. A wolf with no mind left to add inhibition. It was terrifying, and Thresher felt helpless, unable to help the other wolf at all, too afraid to intervene and take a bit herself.

It was cowardice, but it was also the right choice. There was nothing she could do for him, but circle the fray and bark, hoping to draw Evermore's attention away from him. Disorientation was a symptom she had been told, so she yelped, yipped and cried as she circled the two, hoping the high-pitched noises would give the male a chance at escape.

"Go! Now! Run- this way!" She said, when she saw Evermore stumble. She bolted, hoping that the male might be able to regain his feet and follow her. As far as she knew, the symptoms did not begin immediately- so in the very least, she could get him away from certain death at the teeth of the rabid wolf...Though his future would likely be incredibly bleak.

Meridian felt her teeth piece him and was momentarily stunned in the flurry of her bodies motions. He scrambled out of there when she stumbled though, following the other wolf's voice. His scruff was throbbing but he otherwise wasn't experiencing any symptoms yet.
