Jay didn’t have all of the details but he did know that something horrible had happened and that was why @Sorana didn’t seem to be around much anymore.  At first he’d impatiently pestered his mom and dad about it, but the third time they’d sat him down and explained it, something finally sank in.

If she was too sick to come and play then he was going to bring the play to her.  Well, not the play, but definitely the exploring!  Every time he went out and visited a place, he made sure to bring something back that he could put near the cave entrance on the island.  Sometimes it was cool shaped sticks or bark.  One time it was a huge piece of amber he’d found on a scrap of tree.  Once it was a little bundle of early flowers. He even found a broken section of antler.

This time was definitely the coolest find. It was a rock that was dark, and looked pretty normal, until the sun caught it.  When that happened it sparkled like crazy!  He’d just found it while he was messing around near the edge of the caldera, in the stream, but even if it didn’t come from a cool spot it was still worth having.  Maybe it’d cheer her up.

It was all he could really think to do, but he kept at it optimistically.  Bluejay looked around as he made it to the shore and pulled himself up onto the island.  There, perfect!!  He traipsed over and set it on top of another patch of stone, near the cave entrance, where the sun caught it and would dry it off until it sparkled.  She was going to love it!

His tail wagged enthusiastically, and he sat down to admire it.  He wanted to see her reaction, but his mom had told him not to bother Sorana or Teya for a while. Not until they were ready.

How was he supposed to know when that was?  She never explained that.
