today, like many days, drusk could be found in the courtyard between the mazoi barracks and the priest's quarters; close to where he had been cornered, but not quite. he was not on-duty at the moment and while some eyes continued to watch him, he had shown no further aggression towards his masters since becoming the resident watchdog, and was left mostly to his own devices.
the night before had been a long one. there had been a number of patrols, an increase from what had been the norm for many weeks, and beyond that, the warmth of the mesa did not abate even as their god descended for the evening. drusk had not slept well, and now that he was given leave to rest, he lingered in the courtyard for a time.
mostly, it was to laze about. he lay sprawled in the dust, panting sloppily, without any desire to move.
