a week had passed since she and @Pyro had made the outer fringes of sunspire's realm their destination: in that time they had forded bogs and marshes, slipped past fields of thicket barrow-like and cold, and finally, found themselves among the verdant foothills of a mountain basin with a glittering opal lake that sat tranquil and calm and reflected a bright cerulean sky on its smooth surface. coelho had loved that place more than anything, but pyro had pressed on ahead -- and the two scouts had made good progress on lean sustenance and short time.
their road home was much less taxing; they navigated the stony fens and soggy wastelands with newfound familiarity and confidence, and kept much of the world's features stored in their minds as they went. coelho was particularly interested to see @Rannoch, and tell him of all they had seen during their jaunt.

Scouts had begun to disperse, and Rannoch was left to wait for each of their eventual returns. He frequented the borders when he was not caring for his children, and at this particular moment, that was exactly what he was doing. Despite @Terance's recent return, Rannoch patrolled alone today; he was relieved that the Beta had returned from his unexpected excursion.
The washed-out smell of badger caught his attention, and Rannoch paused to bow his head and sniff at it; it didn't seem like a threat, once he had investigated further. Rannoch snorted then and lifted his head so that he could resume his patrol.

finding rannoch was not the most challenging objective coelho had faced that week. after all, she had climbed out of a bog earlier - seeking the alpha's council seemed like childs' play in comparison.
moving along at a quick dog-trot, coelho came across the male as he bent down to inspect a scent. she slowed to a cautious walk then and flattened her ears, her tail curving under her belly in submissive greeting that entreated for allowing her approach.

"Oh, Coelho," Rannoch called once the Omega's approach had caught his attention. "You're back!" he exclaimed once he realized what her presence met. Rannoch then spun around to face her and greeted her with a wagging tail.
"How did it go?" he prompted and moved a step towards her.

coelho's composure melted as the soft peal of his turquoise eyes met her frame: she bubbled and squirmed, coming up alongside him with several affectionate licks along his flank.
she calmed herself for but a second; long enough to answer: "oh, fine!" which was the truth, but he probably expected a little more information than that. the omega collected herself with a big inhale, exhaled, and then expanded: "we went a little farther than i've been before, pyro and i. we found a marsh that's not too far from here, then some flat-lands, a few wooded areas and a pretty lake! there was a pack before the marsh, hmm, i didn't know there was one there, we didn't meet anyone.. but after that we didn't run into a pack for a while."

Coelho's affections were reciprocated; Rannoch affectionately nipped at her nape and then nudged her cheek before he took step back. "I'm so glad to see you back," he stated with evident relief.
Coelho then went on to explain the territories that she and Pyro had seen, and he got the jest of their adventure—a marsh, flatlands, wooded areas, an unnamed pack, and a pretty lake. Rannoch was intrigued, to say the least.
"Did any of the territories seem suitable to live in?" he asked; Rannoch expected that the marsh was a no-go. "And this pack you mentioned... you had no contact with them?" It seemed odd but, Rannoch trusted his scouts.

coelho shook her head no in answer -- they thankfully had avoided any packwolves, and, while they had skirted past swiftcurrent, they had not been met by heavily armed forces. a good sign, coelho thought.
"lots of swamp. a little bit of flatlands further out. we'll have to scout that next trip - we didn't want to be gone too long." coelho gave an apologetic smile, shared the rest of their journey with the alpha, and then once she had answered each question he asked of her, bade her leave to revisit the caches and start their scouting expedition anew.
