All Welcome
Energy burned within Kirain, her heart pounding with a mix of nerves and electric excitement. She darted through the trees, brushing past leaves and thickets, startling birds into flight and sending ripples across quiet streams. She couldn’t help herself, she had to move. So she moved, wild and free.

The Viridian Sanctum was coming along beautifully, though the quiet lingered like morning fog—gentle, but undeniably there. It wasn’t for lack of effort, at least not on @Solenya 's part. Kirain, however, had been more or less tethered to the trees since her recovery. Guilt threaded through her chest as she ran the winding paths of her home. Maybe she should go out… recruit, meet others. What harm could it do?

She didn’t love the idea. She liked it here, preferred the rhythm of the wilds over the uncertainty of strangers. Still, she couldn’t ignore the truth: if the Viridian Sanctum was going to thrive, it needed more paws on the ground. More hearts.

So deep in thought was she that she didn’t see the tall she-wolf ahead until it was far too late. Her paws tangled beneath her, and she went sprawling into the underbrush.

She really need to stop making a habit of this, she groaned internally, lying sprawled in a tangle of leaves and dirt.

Solenya had just returned from the boundaries before she came close to becoming Kirain’s landing pad. She had stepped out of the girl’s path, but found it unnecessary as the lily’s trajectory landed her in the brush. The willow woman let loose a quiet laugh, shaking her head at the girl’s clumsiness.

Kirain. Are you alright? She moved to find Kirain sprawled before reaching a paw to remove the debris that settled onto the sweet girl’s white fur.

Where are you going in such a hurry?

Solenya! Kirain beamed up at the lupine, her tail thumping excitedly against the earth. I almost didn’t see you! I’m so sorry. I'm okay!

She pushed herself upright and gave her pelt a brisk shake, scattering bits of dirt and leaves from her fur.

I came to find friends. It’s just... too quiet here. Her ears flicked. Not that there’s anything wrong with quiet! I just think—wouldn’t it be nice to have more wolves around? To see the Sanctum truly bloom into the pack it’s meant to be?

Her words sped up as she spoke, a bubbling momentum behind every thought. Still buzzing with energy, she began to tap her paws against the ground, her head tilting playfully from side to side.

It’s quite alright, I’m just glad you’re okay! Solenya leaned away from the onslaught of flying debris, eyes squinted to prevent dirt from finding its way in. She shook herself just in case.

The lupine hummed her agreement at the lily’s mention of more friends. I do wish there were more to help guard these lands and find peace here. Friends would be good, too. Nodding, green eyes took in their surroundings, wondering if the sentinels will ever see pack life, again.

My travels did not bring me to find others seeking a fresh start. At the very least, we formed the beginnings of alliances with our neighboring packs and can build trades routes with them. Some good news.  She waved her tail, slowly, as disappointment washing over her features. There had been hope to bring back more wolves, and better news.

Not to mention, she was disappointed in that she had returned alone, as the time came for all females to endure a need so deep, a curse of which was coming. Surely, Kirain would catch the oncoming, her scent had indeed begun its change. Poor Rodyn, the male who had met her at the borders of Moonglow, was almost subject to her…wants.

He was handsome and friendly, there was no doubt of it, with our without her heat driving her instincts. He had been kind, and she hadn’t been there to jump a male, it had been to form an alliance. Trying to drag him to her bed may not have been the most helpful. Not only that—she had managed to get this far without indulging herself. She did not want the first to mean nothing. He certainly had not been interested, yet it was unclear if it even registered then.

So, she left him to return home. Yet, her mind could not cease to create his face every time she drifted to sleep.

We may think that we are tending our garden, but of course, in many different ways...

Bushtit stopped by! He was looking for you, to say hello and check in on the pack's progress. He also stared at our trees a lot, Kirain added with a soft laugh, the memory still fresh in her mind. The look of wide-eyed awe on his face as he stood among the silent giants had been priceless.

Alliances are great, lupine. We need those just as much, she continued, her tone bright with approval. I’m glad you were successful in strengthening bonds. Trade will be especially useful as the year goes on.

She truly believed Solenya had done well—more wolves would come. The Sanctum was a place of healing and new beginnings, and its quiet energy called to those in need. Kirain had full faith in their purpose here.

That reminds me, she said, perking up slightly. Are you familiar with the hot springs between the mountains? Bush says they’re not too far east. Apparently, there’s a gathering happening there—and we’ve been invited.

Her eyes sparkled with quiet excitement. It could be a great chance to make new connections. What do you think? I know you’ve been traveling a lot, you deserve some rest. No pressure, of course. Just a thought.

At the lily’s mentioned of Bushtit, Solenya did indeed smile. Oh, yes, Bushtit. What an interesting young man. He did enjoy these trees. Her chest vibrated in a chuckle.

She dipped her head at Kirain’s praise. I did what I could. Though, you might be pleased to know that a male from Moonspear, Alaric, had agreed to help you in your studies, if that was of interest to you? It would be good for the white she-wolf to experience something outside of the sentinels.

The lupine’s head cocked, thinking of where she had been recently, and if she had seen these hot springs. She shook her head in response. I’m not familiar with these springs, but I surely wouldn’t mind mingling with others. The quiet here, though soothing as it is, does not always make the best company.

Her cheeks reddened slightly, her eyes casting to the side. Though, I will say—I’m not entirely sure it is wise for me to be amongst others. Especially if…males will be present. Did Bushtit mentioned when this party is happening? She wondered then if Rodyn would be in attendance—hopefully when she was completely through this cursed time.

You… you found someone to help me? Kirain’s voice wavered, touched with disbelief. Her eyes began to mist over, emotion swelling in her chest. Solenya, you didn’t have to do that.

The thoughtfulness of the gesture struck her deeply. The lupine had acted on her behalf, so she could grow, so she could bloom. It was incredibly moving to the little white dame.

She cleared her throat and blinked rapidly, trying to push back the tears. I agree, she said softly. The Sentinels offer us so much, but… something’s missing. Among all this greenery, I still feel a little hollow. It’s been too long since I truly socialized. Bushtit reminded me of that.

Her ears flicked back with a sheepish smile as she pulled a face. The loneliness had crept in the moment he’d left. She missed connecting with others. She liked it. Maybe the party would be her chance.

Her ears perked as she tilted her head. What’s wrong with males? she asked with genuine concern, her eyes scanning Solenya for any visible signs of pain or injury. Were you hurt? Did something hap— She paused mid-sentence, nose twitching. On her next inhale, the scent hit her.

Kirain froze, her eyes going wide. She stared at Solenya. You're in heat? she asked, blinking. A beat passed before she tilted her head again. Wait… doesn’t that mean you’re supposed to be around males? I heard that breeding is more enjoyable during this time?

Solenya tsked her tongue at the lily’s welling emotions, a soft smile forming. I told you I would do what I can to help you, my sweet friend. It would surely benefit the whole pack if there was someone with Kirain’s capabilities. The lupine did make this promise, just as she would promise any others who wanted from this life; whatever she was capable of doing, it will be done.

The sweet moment ended as soon as the to-be healer scented her affliction. Kirain’s questions were valid, and while, yes, breeding would be more pleasurable during this time—it wasn’t what she wanted. At least, not like this.

Yes, often times it is—or so I’m told. I have not…experienced that for myself. I’m untouched, as it were. The truth revealed, she let loose a sigh. I have managed to keep to my solitude and suffer through it alone. I am not interested in any hit-and-runs. She craved connection, friendship, someone who would stay by her side should puppies be a result.

Love. Love is truly what she craved.

There was an embarrassed giggle that escaped her. I’m thankful I am not deep in the throws of it, yet, but I can feel it. While traveling, I met a male from Moonglow, another one of our neighboring packs. His name is @Rodyn Ardeth…very handsome and quite kind—though I might’ve overstepped his pack boundaries a tad in my excitement to meet others, he met me with fang that quickly melted.

I felt that urge to go to him, or even bring him here. She shook her head, another laugh at her predicament.

Her features grew somber, a little wistful. But, I would like to see him, again, when I’m clear of this…primal urge. I don’t want to tie anyone to me out of selfishness.

Taking a step closer to Solenya, Kirain offered a gentle nuzzle to her shoulder in quiet appreciation. It had been far too long since someone had shown such willingness to help her. Unbidden, memories from her stolen past stirred—bitter and persistent—but she shoved them back down. Not now. Not here. This moment was what mattered.

As Solenya continued, Kirain tilted her head, a puzzled expression spreading across her face.
Hit and run? What does that mean? And what about adorable puppies? The first Viridian Sanctum litter!

Her confusion was plain, hanging in the air like a question left unanswered. Kirain was no stranger to feeling out of place in conversations like these, her innocence and inexperience often leaving her scrambling to catch up.

But it was Solenya’s mention of Rodyn that truly hooked her attention. Rodyn? He was aggressive toward you?!

The compliments Solenya had just given the man faded into the background, lost to Kirain’s rising concern. Her ears flicked back, expression darkening. That’s awful! Why would you even want to see someone like that again?

She scowled softly, her tone laced with both confusion and quiet disapproval as she questioned the judgment of the wolf she had only just begun to look up to.

Solenya’s head shook fervently, an apologetic glint to her eyes at concerning her dear friend. No, no—Kirain, it wasn’t like that. He did not move to hurt me, though he would have been in his rights to do so. I made the mistake of overstepping and when I replaced myself back on neutral ground, he calmed. She patted her friend’s cheek. I’m sorry, that came out entirely wrong.

The lily had regarded her now with some form of incredulity—disgust, maybe. Oh, the lupine might have not explained herself well enough. She let loose another sigh, looking skyward.

I am pure, Kirain. Not because I never had suitors—it’s something I chose. I want love. I do not want to satisfy this when it would only end in the possibility of caring for puppies on my own. Some day, I want to raise a family—whole, no missing pieces.

Her voice had grown quiet. She had lost hers—her family—each piece missing from her. It was not something she wished for her future children to endure.

I can’t tell you exactly why I want to see him again. But, I do—and it may not even happen. He didn’t seem interested. Cordial, polite, even. But, not interested. Grief slept heavy there and, sometimes, that clouds many things. She shrugged. It can’t be helped anyway.

Oh.

Kirain’s posture softened instantly, her earlier tension draining away. As long as Solenya wasn’t in danger, wasn’t hurt or at risk, everything else could be forgiven. A flicker of embarrassment crossed her features, her ears twitching as she lowered her gaze.

Forgive me, lupine. I… I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions. Her sigh was quiet, weighted. Don’t mind me. Old instincts die hard, I suppose.

But as Solenya spoke of love and family, Kirain's expression shifted. Her ears folded back, and she turned slightly away, as if shielding herself from memories too sharp to face.

Love isn’t worth it, Solenya, she said softly. Everyone leaves, in the end. Even the ones you think will stay forever—the ones who feel like your future. They go, and you're left empty. A bitter edge crept into her voice before she caught herself. Love is fickle. Cruel. But… it’s your life. Your choices. I’ll always support you.

She looked back over her shoulder, managing a small, weary smile. I hope you get to see him again. He must’ve meant something, to leave such a mark on you.

There is nothing to forgive; I understand you were concerned. I am thankful to have you at my back. She cupped the she-wolf’s cheek, softness creeping in her eyes. To have a friend is to be rich in life—Solenya sure considered herself so.

When Kirain spoke her thoughts on love and family, Solenya pulled away to regard her friend, a flash of concern crossing her features. What had made the lily so cynical? What hurt had she endured? Anger rose in her breast, heart pumping it through her veins.

Oh, Kirain. I wish that were not so for you. Love is fickle, yes—but it should never be cruel. That was not love, my lily.

She offered a small smile when the white she-wolf turned over-shoulder. I’m not sure, but I do hope to find out. But, if you are still intent on leaving the sentinels for some time, could you do something for me? You know, while I seclude myself here for a bit?

Kirain dipped her head in a solemn nod.
Always.

Solenya’s words lingered in the air, tender and hopeful. But Kirain couldn’t hold back the bitter laugh that slipped free, sharp and hollow. Her silver gaze dropped to her paws, eyes clouded with old ghosts.

Oh, sweet summer child… she murmured, a whisper wrapped in sorrow. But it was. It always is. You can't have love without the bite. The sting is what makes it real. Her voice lowered, edged with something quieter and colder. Just be careful it doesn’t sever you completely. There’s no truly coming back from that.

The words hung heavy in the air.

Silence stretched between them—thick, but not empty. It carried the weight of things unsaid. Only when the quiet had settled deep did Kirain speak again, her tone softening.

What can I do for you?
A pause. Vulnerable. Honest.
I… I’ll try my best to make it happen.

To think that someone, or many someones, had caused Kirain to have such an ugly view of one of life’s greatest gifts was blood-boiling. The lily had such a sweet, gorgeous soul—what kind of monster would dared to destroy such beauty?

Her words came in a whisper. I promise, I won’t let it.

Kirain accepted her request and the lupine smiled at her kindness. The lilies, by the river—could you gather as many as you are comfortable carrying to…gift to Rodyn, to his pack? There was a shyness in her request, embarrassment in her tone.

Lilies represent rebirth, hope, given to those who are grieving. The pack of Moonglow are in a state of grief—the reason I do not know, but I thought it would be a nice way to acknowledge it more than an ‘I’m sorry.’ And, maybe, add just one lupine flower…so that he knows it was from me? She had mentioned to him on her departure that if he were to ever visit, to follow the lupine flowers where he would be sure to find her.

Kirain dipped her head in acknowledgment, her ears twitching at the whispered words. Then, lifting her gaze, she met Solenya's eyes.

You want me to travel to Moonglow? To deliver lilies—and a lupine—to Rodyn and his mourning pack? She paused, studying the other wolf in quiet contemplation. After a beat, she tilted her head, curiosity softening her expression. He’s clearly made quite the impression. If that is your wish, I will see it done.

Her gaze drifted in the direction of the winding river nearby. She was already calculating the journey—how best to carry the flowers, how to keep them intact. A hide sling, perhaps? She doubted they would fare well in her jaws for such a distance. But this trip could serve multiple purposes. With careful timing, she might gather fresh herbs on the return.

Kirain gave a small nod to herself, silver eyes turning back to Solenya, steady and clear. Is there anything else you would ask of me?

A blush crept into her cheeks as the lily repeated back her request, her ears tilting back slightly. She was not usually like this, and maybe it was her heat driving her, though she couldn’t truly be sure—he hadn’t left her thoughts since she has arrived home and, maybe, seeing him again would solidify or dispel this persistent feeling of what-if.

Y-yes, thank you so much, Kirain. She moved to nuzzle Kirain’s cheek in gratitude and as a farewell for now. There is one more thing I ask—be safe, okay? She hugged the female tightly, some emotion whirling in her that welled in her eyes. There was a time where being alone was nothing, she could handle it just fine. But now? Now that she could call someone a friend? It broke her to see her go. There was fear that Kirain would not return—like her family.

Turning quickly, she sniffed, unwilling to let the tear that threatened to fall be witnessed. Safe travels, my sweet lily.

Kirain’s expression softened at Solenya’s sweet reaction. The pain she had clung to so tightly finally loosened its grip. She let it go, allowed it to fade. There was no use dwelling on the past—that wasn’t what the Sanctum stood for. And if she could help her companion find love... well, that wouldn’t be so bad either.

The hug caught her off guard, but she returned it without hesitation, holding the lupine close.

I will be, she murmured. I’ll be back before you know it. Hopefully with some news from Rodyn. A light laugh escaped her, teasing warmth behind her words.

As Solenya turned away, wishing her well, Kirain began to make her way toward the river. With a glance over her shoulder, she called out, Be well, my lupine!
