Kira laughed about sharing anecdotes. “Well, by the time I find someone, you’ll know more, so you can give me advice then,” she said.

Another laugh escaped her lips when Treepie asked about what she imagined as her perfect someone. “I don’t know, Pie,” she said. But she took the time to think about it.

“I guess someone nice and kind, obviously. Someone who gets me and I can have fun with. And I don’t know.”

Obviously, Treepie parroted, waiting for more which didn’t come. She couldn’t resist teasing, Someone you don’t know, huh? She winked one yellow eye, in case it wasn’t clear she was ribbing the other she-wolf. Well… are you into men? Women? Either/or? she decided to go ahead and ask, you know, for science.

Abruptly, she remembered they’d been having an entirely different conversation before Kindle’s little interruption. Pie made a mental note to swing the subject back to medicine, eventually. Right now, she was far too interested in the topic at hand, her unwavering gaze boring into Kira’s pretty face.

Kira laughed at the teasing. "Well, it might be someone I don't know yet," she said. "But, that's not what I meant."

The next question stumped her. "I hadn't thought about it, but...maybe either?" she said. She shifted a bit. "I guess I'll find out when the time comes, but I hadn't thought about it." She repeated herself as she started having a bit of an internal crisis.

It struck Tiuttuk as—not odd, exactly, but a little inconceivable—that Kira didn’t know whether she was attracted to men or women. Pie’s lips parted, a little thrill shooting through her when Kira seemed open to either. Only now did it occur to her that maybe she was developing a little crush on the other woman… but it wasn’t even that.

It took her a moment to suss out the real reason: it was the reinforcement that her own gender identity really didn’t make much of a difference to anybody. Kindle hadn’t seemed to care, either. Of course, there was still the quandary of procreation to sort out… but, in any case, Tiuttuk abruptly knew she could be her truest self with Kira and the Lazore wouldn’t bat an eyelash.

She wouldn’t just blurt out the truth right now, though. That timing would be strange indeed. Instead, she tucked this information away and offered Kira a smile and wave of her tail.

It’ll be fun to explore your interests in that department too, Treepie encouraged, which was a perfect segue back to their original conversation. Loath to veer away from romantic prospects, she nevertheless steered herself to say, And I didn’t mean to drop our earlier conversation. If you’re not doing anything else today, maybe we could scout out some good potential places for a new healing ulaq? Or even ulax, she noted a loud. Probably can’t hurt to have more than one, right?

Kira nodded at the idea that it would be fun to explore. Treepie was right, of course. Then, the other wolf brought up their earlier conversation, one that Kira had forgotten about. But, she was glad for the new conversation. It was another topic that excited her.

"Oh, that would be good!" Kira said, excitedly. "I am not busy today." She paused, questioning herself for a second. "Nope, I'm not busy," she repeated.

Treepie burst into laughter at Kira’s moment of uncertainty. She really was quite the charming creature. And maybe Pie did have a little crush. She didn’t think it was a big deal, so long as she didn’t act on it. After all, she and Kindle had established exclusivity and monogamy, if not a lifelong commitment.

Let’s go find you a medicine den, she declared, reaching out a paw to gently push at Kira’s shoulder. Her fur was so soft beneath Pie’s little black toes. If we don’t find something ready to go, we can always dig one, she thought aloud as she stook her first step.

She paused after a few more steps to glance at Kira to make sure she was following. Treepie then set off at a decisive pace, leading the other woman down the mountain. It made sense to her that any healing ulaq they found or made should be close to its base to make it accessible both to the sick and injured and the menders looking after them.

I figured we could fade with them going off to explore? We should have another soon! :)

Kira stood up with Treepie, ready to go on their adventure. "All right," she said, stretching before heading off with her new friend. Her thoughts ran wild, picturing the future, and getting excited about the possibility of being a medic.

She followed after Treepie, ready for this adventure. One of the first steps in her new life.
