Ilya felt her fur bristle as she continued with one of their kills. The other was left where it was, but she was too small to carry both deer at once. She could see the bear through the cracks in the underbrush, which meant it could probably see her as well. The black wolf prayed it didn't.

She tugged the deer along, her blue eyes watching as Mordecai and Harlyn both attacked the bear. She flinched, feeling a growl rumble in her throat. She choked it back, no reason to give herself away. If the bear did anything against her alphas though, she would have no problem abandoning the deer to defend her pack. Her fur remained raised, especially that along her spine. Her tail and ears remained now, and her pupils were narrowed to small dots. She was preparing herself.
